Expedition Preparation Coaching for Sea Kayakers

Expedition preparation coaching for sea kayakers

Do you have an independent sea-kayaking or expedition project? You may need an outside perspective before choosing your equipment, plotting your route or committing to an isolated environment.

This one-to-one coaching helps you challenge your project, identify weak points and make sounder decisions. We start with your level, objectives, constraints and the information you have already gathered.

This is not the sale of a ready-made itinerary. The aim is to put real field experience at the service of your own preparation, helping you gain self-reliance and a wider safety margin.

€80 / hour — by phone or video call.

What we can analyse together

Project, route and decision-making

  • Overall feasibility and consistency with your experience.
  • Technical level, endurance and experience required.
  • Review of the proposed route, realistic distances and daily pace.
  • Managing commitment, escape options and points of exit.
  • Wind, swell, currents, weather and decisions when conditions change.
  • Planning an evacuation, a Plan B or a day in sheltered waters.

Self-reliance, equipment and organisation

  • Choosing a kayak that matches the route, load and your level.
  • Loading, weight distribution and the boat’s behaviour at sea.
  • Dry bags, bivouac, water, food and day-to-day organisation.
  • Clothing, thermal protection and managing heat or cold.
  • Navigation, communication, VHF, Garmin inReach, Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) and redundancy.
  • Field repairs, maintenance, medical kit and prioritising purchases.

Experience grounded in real fieldwork

The value of this support comes from nearly thirty years of experience: independent journeys, expeditions in isolated environments, paddling in the Mediterranean, tropical trips and work in polar regions.

We can also draw on regular experience with hard-shell and folding kayaks, including the Nautiraid Grand Raid 540, Grand Narak 550 and TRAK. This makes it possible to discuss loading, behaviour at sea, assembly, maintenance, field repairs and the limits of each type of equipment in concrete terms.

Organising food and equipment during a sea-kayak journey
Planning self-reliance in the details — food, equipment and day-to-day organisation.

A simple, session-by-session approach

  1. A first one-hour session: we review your project, level, proposed route, kayak, equipment and main questions.
  2. Time to think: after the conversation, you can do further research, test solutions and refine your choices.
  3. A second session if needed: you come back with more precise questions and we work through the points that remain undecided.

There is no package to commit to. You book only the time you need, at €80 / hour, by phone or video call.

What the coaching does not automatically include

The coaching focuses on thinking through, preparing and making decisions about your project. It is not a sale of Voyage Kayak reconnaissance work or a Voyage Kayak trip.

  • Voyage Kayak roadbooks are not automatically included.
  • GPS files, waypoints, address books and local contacts are not automatically provided.
  • Detailed itineraries from professional reconnaissance and commercial information that would allow a Voyage Kayak trip to be directly reproduced remain excluded.

This limit protects the work carried out over nearly thirty years to design routes, conduct reconnaissance and build a local network. It also keeps the coaching focused on your project and on the decisions you need to make yourself.

Are you a professional?

Are you a guide, agency or tourism professional and would like to use this support as part of developing a commercial activity? Contact us so that we can define the scope of the service.

The €80 / hour rate does not automatically grant permission to pass on information that would allow another operator to build or market a competing trip. The requirements, scope of work and usage rights must be defined separately.
