Sea Kayak Training & Assistance

Training and support for your sea-kayaking projects

Would you like to improve your skills, prepare an independent trip or get support with an expedition project? Voyage Kayak offers on-water training, tailored courses and one-to-one support grounded in real sea-kayaking experience.

Since 1998, we have worked on safety techniques, navigation, weather, self-reliance and the organisation of trips in very different environments, from the Mediterranean to polar regions and tropical archipelagos.

Every form of support starts with your level, your project and your practical questions. The aim is not to make you follow a ready-made method, but to help you make better decisions on the water and before you leave.

Which type of support is right for you?

Expedition preparation coaching

You have your own independent sea-kayaking project. We help you challenge it, identify weak points and prepare your route, equipment, safety strategy and organisation.

€80 / hour — by phone or video call.

Sea-kayak training and skills development

Learn or consolidate the skills that make sea kayaking safer: kayak technique, rescues, rolling, reading the sea, weather, coastal navigation and VHF use.

The content is adapted to your level, from an introduction to preparation for a committed multi-day journey.

Tailored training courses

Are you a small group, an association, an organisation or a team working towards a specific objective? We build a format around your expectations, schedule and chosen environment.

The programme can combine technique, safety, navigation, weather analysis and preparation for a sea-kayaking trip.

Coaching is support for thinking through and preparing your project. It does not automatically include Voyage Kayak roadbooks, GPS files, waypoints, local contacts or detailed itineraries resulting from professional reconnaissance work.

Training built around real conditions

The formats below reflect the types of courses we can organise. Dates, exact duration and content are defined together according to your level, objectives and the conditions on the water.

Two-day winter sea-kayaking preparation — Lake Serre-Ponçon

In January, Lake Serre-Ponçon offers a particularly valuable mountain setting for working on cold-weather navigation and preparing for a trip in a more demanding environment. The course covers safety techniques, equipment organisation, thermal protection and decisions specific to low temperatures.

Five-day sea-kayaking course — experienced paddlers

On the Giens Peninsula, around Porquerolles and Port-Cros, the programme can develop rescue techniques, kayak technique, rolling, weather analysis, expedition food planning, route planning, chartwork and VHF use.

Depending on the conditions, the course includes more exposed paddling and work on managing commitment, escape options and changes of strategy.

Five-day sea-kayaking course — introduction and progression

Around the Giens Peninsula and Porquerolles, this format is aimed at beginners and paddlers building their experience. It helps you gain confidence, develop core skills, learn essential safety techniques, read a chart, observe the weather and begin coastal navigation and VHF use.

Sea-kayak paddling in northern conditions
Preparing for cold conditions — equipment, thermal protection and decisions adapted to the environment.

Sea-kayaking below the cliffs of the Calanques
Reading the coastline and the sea — route choice, weather and navigation decisions.

Preparing equipment before a sea-kayaking session
Preparing and checking your equipment — safety, organisation and self-reliance.

What we can work on together

  • Kayak technique, balance, edging and rolling.
  • Recoveries, self-rescue and rescuing a paddling partner.
  • Chartwork, coastal navigation, VHF and communication tools.
  • Reading weather, wind, swell and currents.
  • Planning a multi-day journey, pace, bivouac, water and food.
  • Choosing and organising equipment for the environment and season.
  • Managing cold, heat, commitment and escape options.
  • Plan B, evacuation, first-aid kit and repair equipment.

Depending on the destination and format, we can also cover the use of a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), a Garmin inReach satellite communication device and the redundancy principles needed for independent travel.

A professional approach grounded in field experience

The content of our training and support is based on nearly thirty years of field experience in Mediterranean, tropical and polar settings. The advice remains practical: it should be understandable, testable and reusable when conditions genuinely change.

We work with a range of hard-shell and folding kayaks, including the Nautiraid Grand Raid 540, Grand Narak 550 and TRAK. This experience allows us to address loading, behaviour at sea, assembly, maintenance, small field repairs and the limits of each type of equipment in a practical way.

The aim is not to make you dependent on a leader, but to help you gain self-reliance, clear judgement and a wider safety margin.

Let’s talk about your project
