Southern Corsica Sea Kayaking — 7-Days Liveaboard

Seven days of sea kayaking between spectacular cliffs, secluded coves and legendary islands

The call of the sea

At first light, the sea is glassy. The kayaks glide beneath Bonifacio’s white cliffs as the rising sun catches the ridgelines, while the catamaran waits quietly at anchor. From Ajaccio towards Porto-Vecchio, enjoy a full week of active sea kayaking with the comfort of a floating base camp that rejoins the group each evening.

Why this sea kayaking trip is different

  • Two worlds in one: active sea kayaking by day, the comfort of the catamaran each evening.
  • Iconic coastlines: Capu di Muru, Senetosa, Roccapina’s granite lion, the cliffs of Bonifacio and the Lavezzi Islands.
  • A genuine coastal journey: the group progresses along the coast and meets the catamaran at a new anchorage each evening.
  • Sailing is part of the adventure too: when conditions are favourable, some passages are made under sail and guests who wish to can take the helm or help with sail handling and manoeuvres.
  • A mobile floating base: in areas where camping and bivouacking are prohibited or tightly regulated, the catamaran keeps the journey flowing while adding comfort and flexibility.

From the Gulf of Ajaccio to the Lavezzi Islands: Corsica from the sea

From the Gulf of Ajaccio to the Strait of Bonifacio, the coastline changes constantly. Beyond the Isolella peninsula and Capu di Muru come the wild shores of Campumoru-Senetosa, Roccapina’s sculpted granite, then Bonifacio’s limestone cliffs and the turquoise waters of the Lavezzi Islands.

The route is never completely fixed: wind, sea state and conditions in the Strait of Bonifacio can change the shape of each stage. The catamaran allows us to adjust launch and landing points and anchorages while preserving the spirit of a true coastal journey.

Life aboard the catamaran

Each late afternoon we climb back aboard, rinse off the salt, settle on deck and watch the light fade along the coast. Sleeping aboard the catamaran changes everything: a different anchorage each night, close to the next day’s paddling area.

Space & comfort

  • Fountaine Pajot Venezia 42: 4 double cabins, 2 single cabins, 2 heads with showers, plus an outdoor shower.
  • Spacious deck and cockpit for relaxing, sharing meals and enjoying life at anchor.
  • Simple cruising-catamaran comfort: proper sleeping spaces with storage, naturally more compact than a hotel room.

Accommodation & cabins

The standard price is based on shared double-cabin accommodation. Colada has 4 double cabins and 2 single cabins, allocated according to the composition of each group. Couples and people booking together share a double cabin. For solo travellers, we prioritise a private cabin whenever possible; if cabin sharing is required, you will be informed before confirming your booking.

A guaranteed double cabin for single occupancy is also available to solo travellers in limited numbers, subject to availability.

Meals & life on board

  • Breakfasts and dinners on board, prepared with fresh, local produce and organic ingredients whenever possible.
  • Picnic lunches during the day’s kayak journey.
  • Meals are prepared by the skipper and guide in a relaxed, participative atmosphere; helping out with the small everyday tasks is always welcome.

A week shaped by the sea

Indicative programme, adapted to the weather, sea state and the group.

  • Day 1 — Ajaccio: first launch
Meet at 10:30 at the port of Ajaccio. Welcome, safety and life-aboard briefing, then a first paddling session around the Isolella peninsula before rejoining the catamaran for the night.
  • Day 2 — Capu di Muru & Porto Pollo
Genoese towers, secluded beaches and wild coastline accompany the day’s paddle before we meet the catamaran at anchor near Porto Pollo.
  • Day 3 — Cap de Senetosa & Tizzano
We paddle along an intricate, deeply indented coastline dotted with small deserted coves. Rounding Cap de Senetosa is one of the highlights of the day.
  • Day 4 — Roccapina
Coves, headlands and pristine beaches lie beneath the silhouette of Roccapina’s granite lion. Sculpted rock and clear water make this an exceptional area to explore by sea kayak.
  • Day 5 — Bonifacio → Lavezzi Archipelago
We paddle beneath Bonifacio’s white limestone cliffs, past sea caves and layered rock formations with spectacular views up to the citadel, before heading towards the Lavezzi Archipelago for a night at anchor.
  • Day 6 — Lavezzi, Cavallo & heading north
Sea kayaking through turquoise water and a maze of golden granite. Depending on conditions, we then continue north towards Porto-Vecchio.
  • Day 7 — Rondinara and north towards Porto-Vecchio
A final day paddling north. Depending on conditions, we may stop in the beautiful bay of Rondinara before continuing. The final landing point remains dependent on the weather and sea state. Transfer to Bonifacio is included at the end of the trip.

🧭 Paddling time & distances: around 20–25 km per day, generally 4 to 5 hours of paddling plus breaks. The catamaran gives us flexibility and allows a stage to be adapted if conditions or the group require it.

What does a typical day look like?

Breakfast on deck, followed by a weather briefing and route planning. We launch from a sheltered bay and spend several hours sea kayaking around headlands, coves, beaches and coastal rock formations. Lunch is a picnic during the paddling day. In the late afternoon we rejoin the catamaran for a swim, snorkelling and time to relax at anchor, followed by dinner on board and a night in your cabin before moving on to a new stretch of coastline.

Useful information

Access & departure

Meet at 10:30 on Day 1 at the port of Ajaccio. Ajaccio can be reached by air via Ajaccio Napoléon Bonaparte Airport (AJA), followed by taxi or shuttle, or by ferry from Marseille, Toulon or Nice depending on the season. We recommend arriving the day before for a relaxed start to the trip.

End of the trip

The final landing point is adjusted to the conditions and may be in Bonifacio, Porto-Vecchio or at another point along the coast between the two. In all cases, transfer to Bonifacio is included at the end of Day 7. For onward travel, Figari Sud-Corse Airport (FSC) is generally the most convenient option.

Level

Previous sea kayaking experience and a good level of physical fitness are required. Participation is subject to prior approval of the experience questionnaire. See our Trip difficulty and levels page.

Weather & paddling conditions

Conditions are generally favourable in South Corsica in July and September. Wind and sea state may nevertheless lead the guide and skipper to adapt the itinerary, launch points and anchorages. The catamaran allows us to move our floating base and seek out the areas offering the best paddling conditions.
